What was in my head the entire time Kurt, Finn, and Puck pulled up to Santana's in the last chapter of Special:

I don't know, you guys. :x

I did this picture a while back as a stress distraction. Don't think I linked it here.

Even if all I can see now are the HORRIBLE, COUNTLESS MISTAKES, hey, why not.

Here is a tutorial on how I did all those bubbles, if you are into that sort of thing. You can see them better in the full-sized version you can get by clicking the image at the source.

Title: Special
Character(s): Ensemble. Seriously. It covers pretty much everyone, plus some Marvel Universe characters.
Rating: R across everything, to be safe.
Word Count: 4700
Spoilers: Through S2
Full-Series Warnings: Violence, potential character death, and other elements common to comics
Summary: Being a part of something special makes you special. (Also, having superpowers.)
Notes: IT BEGINS. Also, some lines in this story will be very sad to Sam fans, given Chord's status. Sorry! Sorry! I love the dork! HE WILL LIVE ON IN COMIC BOOK VERSE.

Also, you might notice that I am back to my original Corny avatar. Like I said, I waited. :D

Notes: First off: I have decided to stick with my Corny Potter icon until my Pottermore letter arrives. :| I want to know where I will be Sorted! (Anywhere but Gryffindor, please please please.) Also, don't expect most chapter notes to be anywhere near this long.

Second, a few notes about the story setting from here on out: it's now set after the canon S2 finale. So far as everyone knows, that is their life. Canon friendships and romantic relationships are all in place. Also, although pretty nearly every major canon character is slated to show up at one point or another, it might take quite a while for some of them to do so. After all, the choir's attention will be pretty tightly focused on themselves for a while, for obvious reasons.

Third, I am bouncing around on character POV chapters for a bit to serve the plot, but will then settle into a chosen trio. I am pretty shameless in having favorites to write.

Fourth, the research described in this chapter is a real thing. Pretty interesting stuff. Science is neat! This is not going to be a major plot point; given Dream On it seemed like a safe bet that he would participate in something (with a better mindset, granted), and it was an efficient way to move the plot forward in one big leap, but it's not a focus. He's going to have plenty of other things to do.

Fifth, this chapter is relatively short. As you might expect, given what happens in this one, things really take off next week.

On the last Thursday of the school year, Artie Abrams rolled into the choir room and nearly ran into a book with his face. )

[livejournal.com profile] ileliberte is doing some amazing character portraits of the kids in their costumes-to-come. :) I'm so excited! Here's the first of Santana, with a clickthrough link to her original Tumblr post if you'd like to follow her there and see more awesome art.

(Unrelated: at some point I need to let go of Harry Potter and go back to my normal Corny icon. :( )

Notes: I wrote up a longer pre-story notes post for this particular story, as it looks to be a long one. But in short: if you have even a basic level of Marvel knowledge, you should be good. Once past this prologue, everything is set immediately after the end of S2. I'm having fun with rolling around in some character and fandom tropes, so expect to see some popular non-canon behaviors brought up. Don't assume any couple, canon or fanon, is endgame; it's hardly a focus anyway. And I will try to post a new chapter every Thursday to here and to Tumblr.

Finally, this prologue is all dramatic. The tone makes a notable change in chapters to come, for reasons that should be obvious.

Noah Puckerman was thrown into the concrete wall so hard that it cratered. )

As I've been finishing up some work behind the scenes and in real life, I've also geared up to start a new project that is looking to be quite long. Specifically: for a long time I've wanted to do a crossover with the Marvel Universe that gave me an excuse to write everyone with superpowers.

:D

I mean, superpowers besides those absurd ones I wrote in that one crackfic.

:D

The prologue will follow this post. (I thought about adding it to the top there, but I like to keep story posts fairly clean.) A few notes about Special. )

Since I made a thing out of people singing at each Pit Stop, I decided to put together a compilation of all the songs pulled out over the course of the racearoundtheworld, along with notes as to who sang them. Picture the performances! It's fun!

Not gonna lie, if they recorded this album I would buy it in a second. )

First chunk: the end of the race! Decided for both first and second places by single votes!

Second chunk: the announcement of the next Survivor!

Strap yourselves in, this goes for a while.

Because this next Survivor season (probably over the winter hiatus?) will have a theme, I chose the tribe members to keep them somewhat balanced based on the challenges I anticipate. (Which, despite what the players might currently think, don't uniformly favor one tribe.) Also, I picked characters based on who would amuse me to write, which was honestly the primary deciding feature.

As with the final Survivor vote, I need a little bit of time before I can do the finale. Last time it was because I had to write up a long reveal and so the last vote went on for several days. This time I'll just need an extra day for a bit of planning. It's not a day off, it's an extended voting period. ;) Look for the final results tomorrow, and feel free to vote until then.

I did a Disney art-y thing to keep myself relaxed during sessions of meeting the suggestions of my two advisors.

Yes, now I have two advisors who are coming up with things for me to do. *weep*

YER A WIZARD, HARRY.

(I will seriously never be able to stop using a default Corny icon. After all this time, people would probably think I'd been taken over by a pod person.)

I originally considered sending them somewhere else for the finish line, such as LA for entertainment/Jesse jokes, but then I reminded myself of how much I hate it when a "race around the world" starts in Florida and ends in Seattle. (For one example.)

Just FYI if you're unfamiliar with the show: the last leg has a structure that varies from season to season, so definitely don't expect the typical Detour/Roadblock structure of the legs before.

I had some unpleasant appointments that landed heavily on this day and want to plot out this last leg, so: last day off! Starting tomorrow, we'll come back for an unbroken stretch to the final mat.

Leg 10: South Korea > Alaska )

Voting time! Even though the teams left in a certain order, that doesn't mean it's the order in which they'll stay. Particularly for legs in which they have to walk somewhere on foot or drive themselves, teams can bleed a lot of time just making it to the Pit Stop. And so for each leg, challenge order isn't the ultimate determinant of who's gone; you still get to vote for the final cut.

You also get to vote for who wins.

Luck plays a huge role in this game, so if you vote for a top-flying team to get the boot? It is not only possible but I will totally write it. Teams have put gasoline into diesel engines and have gotten detained by local police; there are lots of options for tripping near the finish line.

Opportunity missed: imagine if April and Josh Groban had somehow stumbled all the way into this round, only to wander off into the wilds of Alaska.

It's not like you actually get to choose a team member at this point, but here, have a reminder of who will be doing this Roadblock for each team.

Hopefully Kurt doesn't get inspired by an Oscar trend of facing death, or he'll start looking around for the nearest trash incinerator.

True story: as noted in the previous leg, precedent said they were either heading to Alaska or Hawaii next. In the planning stages I messaged a friend—without giving him any context whatsoever as to what I was doing—and demanded "HAWAII OR ALASKA?"

"What?"

"HAWAII OR ALASKA PICK ONE RIGHT NOW."

And that is why they are headed for Alaska.

Leg 10: South Korea > Alaska )

There is a special poll question today. This possibility has been set up for a while, people have discussed it in the comments, and it's the last real possible leg to have any sort of decent implementation. But I need to ask this at the start of the leg rather than have it be a natural outcome of the vote, as a "yes" will affect my writeup pretty severely. Namely: does Team Inevitable Family Team go out in a blaze of glory not necessarily related to natural task performance, as Kurt's been gunning for?

If you vote "yes" on this, then it does decide who is eliminated this leg right at the start of things; however, you of course will vote for the 1-2-3 placements for the remaining three teams. If you vote "no" on this, it doesn't mean they can't be eliminated; they can still be the natural last-place finishers on checking in to the Pit Stop. This is all about setting up a unique situation that would affect their ability to even participate the next two votes, however. So! Early, weird elimination vote.
